Grassland Biome

Symbiotic Relationships

Symbiotic Relationship is when two organisms from different species interact. Like a whale and the barnacles on it's skin. The barnacles get food from the detritus the whale emits, and the whale is being protected by the them. That would be an example of a mutualistic relationship, where both organisms are in a "win- win" situation. There are two other kinds: commensalistic relationships, and parasitisic relationships. Commensalastic relationship is when one of the organisms is benefited , and the other isn't affected. And a parasitistic relationship is when one is benefited and the other is harmed. (Cobber43,1)

In a grassland,  a mutualistic relationship would be between a lion and a bird. The bird would eat the ticks of the lion, and gets it's meal, and the lion would be free of ticks. An example of a commensalastic relationship in a grassland would be birds living in a tree. The birds would get a place to live and the tree isn't harmed at all. The last one is a parasitistic relatiionship, like leaches sucking the mammal's blood. The leaches get the blood, but the mammal would most likely die. (Cobber43,1)
